2018 Goals

January 03, 2018
I just can't believe that it's 2018 already but I'm feeling more creative than ever and ready to make some big changes. I've put together some goals that I would like to achieve this year in hope that it'll be better than 2017 which cover all aspects of my life and I'm looking forward to working towards them.

- Achieve a good mark in first year

Everyone is always like "oh, first year doesn't count, it's fine" but I know I'll be disappointed if I don't do as well as I hope which is why one of my biggest goals for this year is to end first year with a mark that I class as good. Obviously, marks and grades are relative as it depends on so many factors but I am hoping to achieve at least a 2:1. Fingers crossed.

- Get to 100,000 page views

Ok so at the moment, this one seems a little bit unrealistic but it's something that I would love to accomplish and considering my increased motivation and inspiration regarding blogging lately, maybe it'll happen. However, it's not really about the pageviews for me so it's not something I'd be incredibly upset over if it didn't happen but it would still be an amazing achievement.

- Advance my writing skills and acquire more writing opportunities

As well as writing on my own blog, I also write for the university newspaper and the university magazine as well as some one off articles elsewhere but I would love to extend this list this year by continuing finding more opportunities and really just working on my writing.

- Work on my appearance

This is probably one of the biggest ones for me as at the moment, I'm not too happy with how I look and it's got to the point where I absolutely hate photos being taken of me or if someone looks at me in a certain way, I convince myself it's because of my size. There's a few aspects to this whole working on my appearance thing which I am going to discuss in more detail now:

Lose weight: This is such a cliche new years resolution after everyone has eaten their body weight in chocolate and cheese at Christmas but this has been something that has been going on for me in a while now. I remember I gained a lot of weight in Winter 2016 and I never really managed to lose it again so that's something that I really want to work on this year so that I feel more comfortable and confident within myself.

Cut out sugary drinks: Honestly, I don't drink a lot of drinks like Coke and things now anyway but it's something that I would like to completely eradicate from my diet in 2018. Purely because I don't really like the taste of it anyway and it's just not worth the extra calories and sugar so I want to just completely remove it from my diet. I must admit, I am quite the fan of orange juice so this is something I am going to be unable to cut out but I want to reduce my consumption of it to maybe once or twice a month. Alcohol isn't a massive issue either because I drink it rarely. Basically, I just want to drink a lot more water which will hopefully make me feel a little bit more hydrated.

Become confident in front of the camera: I love taking photos and I do enjoy taking the odd selfie once in a while but that's only because I can manipulate the angles and it just seems to work better. However, people taking photos of me is really not something that I enjoy but equally, it's something that I would love to be comfortable with because fashion blogging and photography is something that I would like to expand more on. Therefore, this year, I'm going to try and experiment with being in front of the camera rather than being behind it and see where that takes me.

Take more time out of my day to do my hair: It's no secret that hair and make up are some of my biggest loves and I really do enjoy doing make up and hair for other people but myself? I just never give myself time for it. So, this year, I want to focus on my hair more, make sure I get it cut regularly, use hair masks and just generally taking time out of my morning to make it look at least half presentable. I think that this will do wonders for my confidence because one of the biggest things I hate when I look in a mirror or a reflective surface is my hair.

- Develop make up skills

This kind of links in with my last point about working on my appearance but I thought I should make it a separate goal because this year, I want to dedicate more time to learning different make up techiques which I can use to apply make up to more people. I've been contemplating taking some sort of make up course in the Summer but that's in it's very initial stages right now and nothing is decided but it's something I've wanted to do for a couple of years and it just sounds like something that I would really enjoy.

- Save money

2018 is going to be the year that I accumulate a good amount of savings. I have no choice due to rent payments and saving for furniture to move in with Josh in third year but I also need to teach myself that it's ok to go into town and not buy a new lipstick and if I have food in the freezer, I really do not need to order takeaway. This is one of my biggest goals and it's one of the most important realistically so I hope that by the end of 2018, I'll be much better at saving money than I am now.

- Use Etsy more/shop small businesses

Ok this is kind of ironic because my last point stated how I wanted to save money and now I'm talking about spending more of it but this year, I want to use Etsy and shop small businesses much more because I just think that it's so important. I plan on buying so many presents for people this year on Etsy etc and I'm looking forward to it.

- Set up an Etsy shop

Again, this is something that is in its very early stages of planning but it has become a lot more feasible due to the graphics tablet Josh bought me for Christmas. I wasn't able to be as creative as I wanted throughout 2017 so this year, I'm hoping to make lots more art and hopefully sell it which is what I actually used to do before.

- Think about life after university

I'm not saying I want to plan out a whole life plan but I do want to start properly thinking about potential careers after university, where I would like to with and just what I want to do with my life because right now, I don't have a clue. As a very organised person, the idea of having no idea what I want to do honestly terrifies me a little bit so I really need to start thinking about that.

- Improve my photography

This year, I want to really step up my photography and create images that I feel proud of. I don't really know where I'm going to start with this but I'm looking forward to experimenting.

What are your 2018 goals?
