A Life Update

a life update

These chatty type posts are one of my favourites to write because it reminds me of why I started this blog; to discuss the high, and the low, points of my life. I'm going to be giving a life update today; from University to my writing, I'm going to let you know what I've been up to.

Obviously, the biggest thing that has happened in the last couple of months is that I'm now engaged! On the 27th of April, Josh proposed to me and of course I said yes but you can read all about that in this post. It's still such a surreal feeling.

As I'm writing this, exam season is about to begin. At first, I told myself that I was going to take a blogging break during exams but I've realised that not doing anything enjoyable as a break from revision is just going to result in me becoming burned out before the exams even start. Therefore, I'm writing when I can and it's all working out quite nicely - other than the fact I'm freaking out incredibly about exam season. It's frustrating because I know that I'm getting good grades but I'm still having the constant panic about not being good enough for my degree and ending up with a mark lower than I want (oh the joys of being such an academic perfectionist). At this point, I can't wait for them to be over. Currently dreaming of waking up and not having to worry about exams for 4 months. 4 whole months of being a full time blogger and content creator.

This follows on to my next point. I've decided that I'm going to take the leap into freelance writing, social media and SEO assistance this Summer. I've started putting plans together for my website but obviously, I will focus on this a lot more after exams have finished. I'm not sure how this is going to go, I still need to gather all of the details and decide a few things but for now, I'm excited about this new little adventure. I'm also proud of myself for finally doing it... now just to find clients. If you have any advice on this, it would be great to hear from you!

As I have such a long time off this Summer, I plan to fill it with creative things. Some of you may know that before blogging became such a big part of my life, I spent a lot of time drawing and painting which you can see on my Facebook page, Lauryn Does Art. This is something that I would like to do more of over Summer and maybe even achieve my 2018 goal of setting up an Etsy shop. In relation to all things creative, I've been using Pinterest so much more lately and I have a variety of different boards that I'm obsessed with so definitely go and check that out here.

I also have other plans this summer that aren't content related, but I'll probably still end up writing about them anyway. To name a few, I'm seeing Ed Sheeran next month with Josh, Miss Saigon with my mother in July and Hamilton in September - all very lovely things. We will also be attending the christening of our God daughter so we will officially be god parents (also gives me the perfect excuse to buy a new outfit)

I've also started to organise how I'm going to spend my time in second year. I've decided that I'm going to continue writing as a student blogger for the websites that I work for, I will still have my content and social media internship until December and I will still write for the University Newspaper and Magazine. Unfortunately, I was not elected as print editor for the University magazine but I have been elected as treasurer; something that I was unsure on at first but I think it'll be a good way to expand my skills and it'll be something extra to put on my CV too. Then, I'm also going to be a peer mentor for first years in Psychology as well as continuing with this blog (obviously) - what we are learning from this is that it's going to be another busy year but despite how draining first year has been, it has been pretty successful so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next academic year.

What have you been up to lately? What are your plans for the rest of the year?

  1. It sounds like you've had a really productive, exciting few months! Congratulations again on your engagement to Josh. I hope you have many happy years together. It's been a few years since I've had to do exams myself, but I can 100% relate to your concerns about them. Just keep looking forwards to the four months break and it'll be here in no time.

It's so cool to hear that someone else is also looking into freelance writing. Your experience as a blogger is such a good start, because it means you have lots of samples ready to give potential clients. It also means you have experience with SEO that other content writers might not have. I've been doing it for little over a month at this point, and have earned just over $500. It's not the get-rich-quick scheme, but it's flexible, and allows me to work from home, which is what I really needed out of a job because I can't leave my house by myself. I'm writing a blog post about the things you need to know before becoming a freelance writer in the next few days, so you might want to look out for that if you're searching for more information!

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah exams aren't enjoyable whatsoever.

Ahh thank you! That's really good and I look forward to your blog post because I'm feeling quite nervous about going into the freelance world!
