avon first impressions

A couple of weeks ago, the lovely team at Avon sent me some of their beauty best sellers and so, I'm going to be sharing my first impressions of these products. From the packaging to the colours to the consistency of the products, it's time to talk about what I think of the best sellers at Avon...

I remember my mum used to always order make up off of Avon a few years ago and so, this is one of the first brands I ever tried. This is such a throwback for me but I'm looking forward to seeing how the products have changed since I used them all of those years ago and also just having some new bits in my make up collection is never a bad thing, right?

eyeshadow quad avon

The quads are priced at £9 which, for four eyeshadow shades, is not a bad price at all. I clearly remember having a couple of these eyeshadow quads in my make up colection when I first started doing make up and they are not bad at all. The size of the product makes it easy to fit into your make up bag and it's perfect for travelling, especially considering there is also a mirror inside. If you are a beginner with eyeshadow, the shades are numbered in order to show you where to apply each shadow which I think is a really good touch. The colours in the Mocha Latte quad are perfect for an every day natural smokey eye and after swatching the shades, I can confirm that they are very pigmented for the price and they blend very easily.

liquid foundation avon

I was saying to Josh a couple hours before this parcel arrived that I needed to try a new foundation so I was very pleased when these two arrived. I'm really grateful that they sent me over 2 shades so that I can see which one works best for me but upon first look, I really like the style of packaging, especially the pump as it just makes the whole application so much easier. I think that the Light Ivory shade will definitely be a better match for my skin tone as the Shell shade seems a bit more orange toned and too dark for my skin tone. However, the consistency of the foundation seems really pleasant and it doesn't make your skin look super cakey, it claims to have a buildable coverage which you can control and I do think that it does this so for £12.50 per product, you can't really go wrong. I will be discussing this in depth more over on Instagram soon so if you're not following me already, I'm over here. (Update for this post: it's a couple of months after I started using the Light Ivory shade and it has become one of my go to foundations. Avon, you did good)

I don't really wear blush as my cheeks get quite red and so, I don't exactly need anything to help enhance that. However, this product really intrigues me. At first, I was a bit hesitant as the colour seemed quite bright but when I swatched it, I realised that it was sheer and buildable so you could just use it to give a slight pop of colour to your cheeks. The formula of the product is really creamy and I immediately realised how easily blendable it is so I think that this would be perfect to avoid those streaky lines. Nobody wants to look like a bowl of neopolitan ice cream. Priced at £6.50 and small enough to not take up much room in your make up bag, I would definitely recommend trying this.

avon soft peach blush

Like I said before, I don't really wear blush and so, I was hesitant about this product. However, it is a really natural, shimmery colour that applies incredibly well. I've got to say, these products are making me want to get into wearing blush because the colours are just so pretty. Again, I'm a big fan of the compact packaging of this as it is no bigger than a single pan eyeshadow shade and the luminous finish is perfect for a glowy day to day look. For only £6, you're really not breaking the bank at all by trying this.

avon auburn brow

I couldn't find this product on the UK Avon but it is priced at $8 which is around £6.20 - incredibly inexpensive for a brow product. This powder and wax combo comes in a compact style case, like all of the other mark. products but you still get a good amount of product considering the price. I usually use more of a cool tone shade for my brows and I've never really considered using an auburn colour as it does look incredbly warm toned but this actually works really well on my brows. It was real easy to apply with my usual Real Techniques eyebrow brush but I will say that the mini dual ended brush that is included with the product isn't the easiest to use.

concealer light

Everyone knows that my holy grail concealer is the Maybelline Eraser Eye and so, as this product is a different consistency to that, I was definitely intrigued by it. I often find that pot concealers easily crease and are not very buildable but this one works well. I really like the consistency as it is smooth and blends easily and while you do need quite a lot of the product to cover dark circles, it still gives a very natural look. This is £7 which isn't bad at all and I would definitely buy this as it is brightening and just an overall good product.

kohl liner avon

I haven't used a Kohl Liner since my 2013 emo days and so this was a bit of a blast from the past for me. I rarely wear eyeliner now and if I do, it's either liquid or gel so I'm probably going to give this product to my mum. However, I will say that the consistency of the pencil is really nice and it glides on smoothly and I think that the smudger at the other end is definitely good if you are going for a deeper smokey eye. At £6, this is pricier than some of the other Kohl liners that I have tried in the past but it doesn't feel as harsh on your eyes which is an advantage.

It's no secret that I love a new lipstick so, 3 new lipsticks is great. These are priced at around £8 each which is the standard price for any high street lipstick in the UK. The packaging is very slick and the transparent tops of the caps make it easy to see which shade it is. Out of the 3, I think that Marvelous Mocha is my favourite as it is a lovely nude-beige colour and so what if I already have 50 of this shade in my collection, I do really like this one.

Superb wine is a beautiful burgundy colour which I am really looking forward to wearing as we transition into the Autumn months. I'm already imagining this lipstick with a sparkly gold cut crease for events like Christmas parties and I am excited.

Adoring Love is the colour out of the three that I'm least likely to pick up in a shop. It's very pink, I feel a bit like Barbie and to be honest, I'm just not sure how confident I am to wear this. However, it is a lovely colour and hopefully, I'll build up the courage to wear it outside.

After trying on all three, I can safely say that the formula is really lightweight and hydrating which is a must have when it's a matte lipstick because I hate when I take off a matte and I feel like my lips are drier than a desert. Also, I'm awful at applying lipstick but these are really easy to apply and feel so smooth on my lips so you could say that I'm quite the fan.

anew balm

Last but not least, we have something from the Anew skincare range which I've never heard of before so I was looking forward to trying it out. It claims to cleanse your skin of make up and impurities while leaving your skin refreshed and improving its texture and considering it's only £7, I was intrigued about the extent that it would do this. Let's just say that I think it's a really good product, you only need a small amount to take off your make up and it leaves your face feeling very healthy. I would definitely recommend buying this if you're looking for a good cleansing balm.

Final thoughts?

I'm pleasantly surprised by all of these products, especially the lipsticks, cleansing balm and the concealer and I'm looking forward to playing with them all a bit more in the upcoming weeks. These products come to a total of £96 which is actually really inexpensive considering the amount that you're getting and the quality of the products. I would definitely recommend checking out Avon if you're looking for some inexpensive, good quality make up.

Which of these would you most like to try? Let me know!
